Leadership for Difficult Work

Good leadership keeps people, teams, and the work going and impactful in hard places.

Leadership shapes whether people stay well, whether teams hold together, and whether the work lasts. In peacebuilding, where leaders work across conflict, mistrust, and uncertainty, and where the work is rarely finished, that influence is even greater.

In our experience, leadership development often gets less attention in for-purpose work than technical skills and program delivery. While the need is urgent, we believe strong leadership is what makes the rest work. Strong leadership is how technical skills are applied well, how programs are delivered well, and how the work achieves the most impact. Where is strong leadership needed more than in the work of changing the world for good? The people who carry others through hard contexts don’t only deserve support to grow as leaders, they need it, and so does the work.

Our leadership development is practical and experiential, and it is inseparable from resilience and trauma-informed practice. We start with what participants already know, hold space for them to reflect and learn from one another, and bring in additional ideas where they help. The aim is growth that leaders take back into their work and lives.
