Trauma-Informed Practice for Difficult Work

Recognizing how trauma shapes people, teams, and the work, and responding with care.

Difficult work in difficult contexts exposes people to hard realities, and those realities shape how individuals, teams, and organizations function. A trauma-informed approach starts by recognizing this.

We use a trauma-informed approach in all our work, drawing on a variety of approaches. Being trauma-informed doesn’t only mean avoiding triggers. It also means being equipped, and equipping others, to regulate our own responses and to support colleagues in theirs.

We start where people are, guided by what the group needs, and we hold space for people to work at their own pace and find their own way forward. We are facilitators, not counselors or therapists. When counseling support is needed, we partner with counselors.

What It Can Look Like

Trauma-Informed Facilitation:

  • Strategic processes, team sessions, and dialogue designed and held with attention to how trauma shapes people, groups, and the work.

Workshops & Trainings:

  • Teaching trauma-informed practice and approaches to individuals, teams, and organizations.

Retreats & Accompaniment:

  • Trauma-informed approaches are part of how we design and hold our retreats, and we walk alongside individuals, teams, and organizations over time as they need.
